ballad of a homeschooled girl ideas:

  • story (not chronologically): a girl getting ready for and going to a party
  • repeatedly cuts between the three scenes and the actual party
  • actual party scenes (she’s not acknowledging the camera, it’s real)
    • talking to people, people not laughing at her joke etc
    • pull from lyrics
    • “I broke a glass, I tripped and fell, I told secrets I shouldn't tell”
    • I stumbled over all my words”
    • “I laughed at the wrong time, sat with the wrong guy
    • Searching, "How to start a conversation?" on a website
    • I talked to this hot guy, swore I was his type
    • Guess that he was makin' out with boys, like, the whole night”
  • 3 settings:
    • in her room getting ready
      • clothes are everywhere, she’s maybe in pyjamas, hair in rollers???
    • at the party in the kitchen
      • there are cups everywhere, people are just standing around talking, not noticing the girl
    • a band playing the music
      • i haven’t figured out where, maybe a school? a park at night?
  • possible fourth location:
    • in her/a room after the party, makeup is very smudged, hair is messy, maybe strap of dress is falling down (she’s a mess)
  • Main storyline:
    • Getting ready
    • Arriving at the party
    • Makes a fool of herself
    • Comes home and regrets everything
  • Possible shot ideas:
    • Tripping over
    • Spilling a drink
    • Breaking a class
    • Sitting in the corner awkwardly, alone
    • Everyone is singing a song and she doesn't know the words
    • Dancing awkwardly (there's a clearing where people are dancing, she's in the clearing and people are watching her)

Shots matched with lines ideas:
  • "And I hate all my clothes, feels like my skin doesn't fit right over my bones"
    • Shot of her getting ready in her room. Clothes are everywhere, she can't pick an outfit
  • "The mornin' after I panic, oh God, what did I say?"
    • Her in the room after the party, maybe lying on the bed or sat on the floor.
Cut counter:
Counting the number of cuts in similar music videos (similar songs in the same album)

  • obsessed - 108
  • bad idea right? - 76
